AGILE ESSENTIALS

Agile Essentials is a vibrant, focused workshop that bridges the empathic, user-driven methods of Human-Centered Design (HCD) with the structured, iterative delivery of the Scrum framework. Tailored for government and military teams, this course equips participants to define mission-aligned problems through user lens, rapidly prototype solutions, and deliver in sprint-driven cycles.
Certified instructors guide intact teams (6–10 per breakout) through a blended journey: starting with empathy-driven problem reframing, then ideating and prototyping, followed by planning and running mini sprints. Teams leave with both a tested prototype and a clear, agile path to implementation—all grounded in real user needs and operational realities.

Ideally participants are part of cohesive teams who have leadership present.
Room(s) required for breakouts of groups of 6-10 people.

Competencies emphasized:

  • Creative Thinking & Innovation – Generates solutions that are both user-focused and iteratively tested. (Supported by Agile and HCD research)
  • Problem Solving – Reframes challenges, tests assumptions, and adapts ideas based on feedback cycles.
  • Interpersonal Skills & Teamwork – Engages diverse voices, promotes inclusive collaboration, and builds team alignment.
  • Project Management & Technical Competence – Executes rapid sprint cycles and applies agile tools for effective delivery.
  • Resilience & Adaptability – Learns from prototyping failures and pivots quickly in response to insights.
  • Accountability & Results Orientation – Teams commit to advancing prototypes and embed next steps into project workflows.

Course Objectives/Outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Conduct in-depth user discovery to surface real needs and reframe problems through an HCD lens.
Rapidly ideate and prototype solutions using low-fidelity formats (e.g., sketches, mock-ups).
Apply Scrum routines—sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews—to test and refine ideas.
Adjust prototypes and work plans based on user feedback and team insights.
Integrate agile visuals and tools (backlogs, boards, retrospectives) into real-world team workflows.
Create an actionable roadmap that blends user validation with iterative delivery.
